August 6, 2024 Primary Election

The partisan primary election determines which candidates are nominated to compete in the general election for the two major political parties recognized in the State of Kansas: the Democratic party and the Republican party.

Minor parties that have obtained official recognition (e.g. Libertarian party) nominate candidates at state conventions.

All filed partisan candidates will be listed on a primary election ballot.

Non-partisan contest races, like the Johnson County Board of County Commissioner positions, will only be included on the August ballot if the number of filed candidates triggers the requirement for a primary.

Any questions submitted by a jurisdiction by June 1, 2024 may be considered in the primary election.
